Course surprised me with really excellent conditions early in the year (after a tough winter). Not an exciting layout, but enough different holes to present some challenges.

Swapping out the contents of a personal cooler with non-alcoholic beverages for their cooler is a ridiculous way to handle the law regarding the purchase of alcoholic beverages. This course is always in great shape, especially the greens!

This updates my previous review from 2008. Our group of travelling seniors played here 9-20-12, and the course is in superb shape, especially the greens. We play here six or seven times a year, and are constantly impressed at how well maintained the course is, despite heavy play and it being a muni (i.e., low budget). A real strong ATTABOY to the greenskeeper and his crew. Similarly, the pro shop staff is always professional and welcoming, and the starters have significantly improved their outlook and commitment to the players' enjoyment. I've also taken a few "tune-up" lessons from the pro: modestly priced, and excellent results for an old geezer like me. Snack bar is OK, but perhaps a notch below the service levels seen elsewhere. We heartily recommend "the Spires."

Kind of like the place where everyone knows your name. Incredible conditioning for the play, often in better shape than the higher daily fee courses nearby. The best teaching facility in the area. Want to know your swing? look into the vault.

Well-designed golf course that's fun to play. Conditions were great in 2009. Greens rolled the best they ever have.

One of the best managed Muni courses I have ever played. Extremely nice staff. They manage the pace of play on the front end of the game. Adequately spread tee times and pair up players so they do not have 2 somes wnating to play through slowing down play. Grounds staff do an incredible job maintaining the course on a Muni budget.

well kept for a municipal course, and seniors get a break in price.

I play this course six-eight times per year. It is a muni of the City of Frederick, and is a jewel. Always well-mainatined, despite getting very heavy play.
Weekday rounds will take every bit of four hours, and weekends may go five or more. However, it is a nice layout: not too much elevation change, but the arhitect did a good job with what he had. Fairways are generous, and always in good shape. Greens are medium sized, most are not heavily contoured, and are about medium speed. Bunkers are plantiful, and usually well maintained.
Pro shop is nice, and the staff always friendly: the starters on the other hand, can be a little over-the-top and needlessly heavy-handed.
They do have a range and two practice greens. Pricing is very competitive for the quality of the course. Highly recommend.
